What is Ashiatsu and why would I be interested?
Why would I want Ashiatsu?
If you’re in need of deep tissue massage therapy, but don’t enjoy the discomfort of pointy elbows and thumbs, then Ashiatsu Bar Therapy is a wonderful treatment option. Benefits of Ashiatsu include:
1 - Deep pressure that can relieve muscle pain, break up scar tissue and alleviate chronic pain. Ashi is great for those needing relief from a tight back, hips and legs.
2 - The long, fluid strokes help to lengthen muscles and provide significant Myofascial release.
3 - These strokes also aid in flushing the lymphatic system, which helps remove metabolic waste from the body.
4 - Improvement in posture by stretching muscles and releasing tension.
5 - Ashiatsu massage is best for athletes and athletic recovery, because it hits the sweet spot between deep recovery work and nervous-system calm - without beating up the client’s body. Deep, broad strokes using the surface of the foot cause fewer micro-injuries to muscle tissue, less-post massage soreness and better tolerance for truly deep work.
What is Ashiatsu?
Ashiatsu massage is a deep-tissue massage technique where the therapist uses their feet instead of their hands to apply pressure. The word “Ashiatsu” comes from Japanese—ashi (foot) and atsu (pressure).
How does it work?
You lie on a massage table while the therapist holds overhead bars for balance and uses their bare feet to glide, sink and stretch along your muscles. Ashiatsu’s deep compression feels slow, flowing and grounding.
