Ashiatsu Aftercare

Extreme Relaxation

You might be feeling a little “massage drunk” after your Ashiatsu appointment, but no worries, it’s all science.

The communication between your nervous system, muscles and fascia is engaged, and your body has enhanced what you feel and notice internally and where you feel in the space around you. “Feel good” chemicals are released during the massage, which are endorphins, oxytocin, dopamine and serotonin.

Ashiatsu manipulates your soft tissues and extends corrective treatment. Your spine is elongated, your joints are decompressed, and sticky, adhered connective tissue is loosened.

Hydration is essential!

Upon completion of your treatment, you will be given water with electrolytes. You are welcome to stay and have a snack (I keep plenty here!) until you feel comfortable driving.

Be sure to intentionally stay hydrated in the days following your Ashiatsu treatment. This helps flush the system and expel metabolic waste.

Avoid Alcohol

Alcohol and Ashiatsu are do not mix! Alcohol causes dehydration and Ashiatsu flushes the body’s system. The body needs time and fluids to expel metabolic waste. Clients may experience an intense lactic acid “hangover” if they drink alcohol after a session.

Rest

Rest is also very necessary for recovery. Avoid compression of the spine to avoid undoing all the progress you made during your Ashiatsu treatment. It is suggested not to do strenous workouts for 24-48 hours within your treatment. Light exercising and yoga are ok.

Next Appointment

The frequency for Ashiatsu massage varies based on individual needs, but generally ranges from every 1-2 weeks for chronic issues or pain relief to monthly or every 4-6 weeks for general maintenance & wellness.
